Art + objects for the home, inspired by the natural world.

The Sylvan Historian Co. is the studio practice of Elliot Krasnopoler & Nina Peláez. Partners in life and in art, this project emerges from a shared love of making art and being in nature. Currently based on Maui, Nina and Elliot look to the shapes, textures, and colors that surround them: sea, salt, sand & stone. Their collections of art + objects emphasize organic forms, natural patterns, and embrace the singular beauty of chance and imperfection. Works on paper are made using cyanotype printing. Ceramic stoneware is thrown or built by hand. Each piece of art is made by hand and one-of-a-kind.

Elliot M. Krasnopoler is a photographer, ceramicist, and art historian. He is finishing his PhD in Art History, which focuses on contemporary artists working with landscape to explore natural and cultural histories of America. He loves hiking, snorkeling, tea, and spending time in the ceramics studio.

Nina C. Peláez is a poet, visual artist, educator, and cultural producer. She recently completed her MFA in poetry and works at The Merwin Conservancy, the former home and garden of poet W.S. Merwin. She makes photographs, mixed media, paintings, and poetry. She loves cooking and gardening, swimming, spending time in the forest, reading and writing.
